How to Choose Between Access, Aggregation and Core Switches

Three tiers cover most network designs. Access switches connect end devices (workstations, cameras, APs) and are often where PoE lives. Aggregation switches collect access links and route between floors or zones. Core switches carry the backbone and interconnect data centers, usually at the highest port speed. Match each tier to your bandwidth and port-density needs, and plan a PoE budget that accounts for per-port power across your powered devices.
